FIRST INTERNATIONAL TITLE: Jocelyna poses with her prize and Koay after winning the Girls Graded Masters title at Sunway Megalanes on Thursday.

Jocelyna overcomes pain barrier at Canon Malasian Open
KUCHING: Jocelyna Judith Jonathan got Sarawak to a flying start in the 34th Canon Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship at the Sunway Megalanes on Thursday when she won the Youth Girls Graded Masters after beating 11 other qualifiers.
The 15-year-old student from SMK Batu Lintang and Malaysian Open debutant helped Sarawak retain the title by downing a total of 1,862 pinfalls.
Jocelyna bowled through pain on an injured thumb and remained focused in the finals to clinch her first international title and earned glory for the state.
She began a score of 207 pinfalls to lead the field from start to finish, downing a line of 198, 163, 246, 159, 220, 138, 193, 164 and 174 in the 10-game final.
Second was Ayra Nur Jehan of Kuala Lumpur with 1826 pinfalls, followed by Nur’ain Mustaffa of Premium Lanes with 1788 pinfalls while fourth and fifth were Amanda Kong (1781) of PTBPP and Iffah Farhanah (1,774) of Santai, Malaysia.
The champion attributed her success to the great state bowling training programme run by dedicated coaches which now incorporates theory classes, fitness, gym and mental toughness camps.
She said the Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak that oversees the programme had done a great job in identifying the needs of the bowlers and finding the means to fulfill them to ensure steady progress and development.
Coach Angelo Koay said he was very impressed with Jocelyna’s performance in her first international outing.
“The hard work put in during training, fitness and weights conditioning even on the day before the final was how much effort, desire and determination Jocelyna had in wanting to win the title,” he said when interviewed from Kuala Lumpur.
Koay, who heads the state UPSTN AA training programme, said the three-day motivation and mental toughness camp done in preparing the bowlers before the championship was a great success and had paid dividends.
“Even the tough lane and pain of injury did not deter her will to win,” he noted.
He was also proud and happy for Jocelyna for winning her first international title.
“When I first saw her in 2009 when she was 13 years old, I was already much impressed with her talent and ability but it was her willingness to listen to instructions and work hard that I knew success for her was inevitable,” said Koay.
Meanwhile, the five boys who made it to the finals of the Boys Graded Masters also performed well, with state USPTN trainee Anthony Luang Cheng finishing second with 1,898 pinfalls in the 18-player field after the champion Tun Ameerul Ashraf of Perak who scored a total of 2,015 pinfalls.
Cheng’s teammate Ervin Lim missed the third placing by a mere pin with 1,894 pinfalls while the third placed winner Adee Bahry was from Premium Lanes.
Jeremy Jerome Johnathan came in sixth with 1,818 pinfalls while another USPTN trainee Mohd Uzair Irsyad was 11th with 1,745 pinfalls.
Sarawak are also competing in the Boys Open, Girls Open, Men’s Graded, Women’s Graded, Men’s Open and Women’s Open that will end today.

Canon 34th Malaysian International Open

WE ARE REPRESENTED!!!

On the 26th May, 2011 at 9am will be the Boys and Girls Graded Finals of the Canon 34th Malaysian International Open 2011 at Sunway Megalanes, Selangor D.E. and Sarawak are proud to be represented in both divisions by Jocelyna Judith Jonathan (Girls), Jeremy Jerome Jonathan, Mohd Uzair Irsyad, Ervin Lim Wai Mun and Anthony Luang Cheng.
MQ after MQ and finally qualifying, it has all actually just begun for these trainees. Qualifying was by no means and easy task but now comes the hard part as they will vie for the title of a Malaysian International Open Champion against the 12 best qualifiers in the country.
Big mission for them come roll-off time as Sarawak attempts to defend the youth graded title which was won by Dayang Aida Natasha (Girls Graded) and Daniel Tan Yan Han (Boys Graded) in last year's edition. Big shoes to fill but all we hope for is our trainees to give it their best. Win or lose is not the issue as the finalists are still "young" at this level but showcasing the true Sarawak warrior spirit and courage is what we want.

Fit for Bowling, Fit for Life session #2 (14.05.2011)

The very "semangat" trainees even on such short notice made the fitness session at Civic Centre due to our usual venue at Unimas being unavailable. The unusually hot weather in Kuching was not used as an excuse by these kids.

The kids have been working hard this year to not only get their physical game of bowling up to par but also their fitness and strength. They finally understand that to be among the best nationally and internationally they have to have good command of the basics as well as advanced skills of the games, acquire lots of knowledge, physically strong and fit with good stamina and mentally strong with positive attitudes.

The trainees together with the coaches have the same vision of creating a complete packaged athlete. With the passion and desire that the whole team is showing towards achieving this goal, we are sure to create more champions maybe not now but surely in the not too distant future.

GO BALD 3 @The Spring, Kuching (15.05.2011)

We're back and yes, as promised...PICTURES!!!

Let us start of with Jonathan Ding Sagan, the still with hair Jon that is,

Then of course, after the GO BALD 3 got to his hair, good bye self proclaimed Bieberfever hair style,

Then it was our association's Assistant Hon. Treasurer's turn to get on stage for his hair cut.

I must say he look pretty good in his new hair style, or should I say, no hair style :D

Anyway, it was all for a good cause and was great to see many turned up for the fund raising event. Many even though not going for the hair cut still donated whatever they could afford to support the S.C.C.S. Jon alone managed to accumulate RM1,365.00 in sponsor for his hair cut which all were donated.

We are now working with the event organisers and S.C.C. S. to bring GO BALD to Crystal Bowl some time next year, maybe just before the SUKMA 2012 games and help raise more funds for the kids as part of our Team Sarawak's community project.

We shall name it - GO BALD, GO BOWL!!! Silas Michael who is a member of the GO BALD crew and lead singer of local band, EvenStarr, has agreed to help bring GO BALD to BDC, Kuching. Jon has agreed to help in the organisation of the event.

Silas Michael of Even Starr (2nd from right) with the rest of the GO BALD Crew

Silas Michael: Do you smeeellllll what the botaks are cooking!!!!!
We hope we will realise this project. Any progress, updates and news will be posted up soon. Stay tuned and if it happens, please come support and GIVE HOPE and help raise funds to lighten the burden of kids suffering from cancer.

The Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak and the Sarawak Tenpin Bowling Team DO CARE!!!

One Heart, One Act...GO BALD, GIVE HOPE!!!

The Spring, Kuching on 15th of May. 2011 will be filled with hair. In the posh mega mall's South Court, the GO BALD, GIVE HOPE will be where hair do not wanna be but YOU DO.

The event is into its 3rd year and is a good will event where we shave our heads to show our support to children suffering from cancer. We want to remind them that despite their unfortunate illness, they are still every bit a Malaysian we are and give them hope.

A good friend of mine, fellow Liverpool supporter and now famous lead singer of EvenStarr, a local band, Mr. Silas Michael, has been on the GO BALD crew since day one and also part founder of this fund raising campaign for the Sarawak Children's Cancer Society or SCCS for short. He will go bald too this Sunday and anyone interested in sponsoring him please go to www.gobald.my as soon as possible. Simply go to http://gobald.my/take-action/ and click on the "click here to donate" button. You ...will see the online payment form (iPay888 Virtual Link Payment Detail). Fill it up accordingly but under "Shavee", pls key in "Silas Evenstarr" and for "Product Description" pls select Go Bald. All funds will go direct to the Sarawak Children's Cancer Society aka SCCS. Once payment is made, the system will send you an official online receipt via email.

After you have done the donation under his name, please kindly forward it to him at silas@truevents.my so he can tabulate your donation in his sponsorship list. In appreciation, he will send you an autographed copy / copies of his shaved photos via email. Even better, do come on to The Spring, Kuching, at 12.30noon to witness him GoBald onstage (that's if ur in town la) and yes, you may applaud or simply laugh at him. Either way, it's all for a good cause. :):)

The GO BALD campaign is targeting to raise RM1,500,000.00 (yes, that's RM One Million Five Hundred) to build a new SCCS centre that will offer an unprecedented level of care and support for child cancer patients in Sarawak:

  • Specially-designed accommodation for visiting patients and their families. Some of these families have to travel for 7 hours just to treat their children!
  • Improved amenities, facilities and resources for the treatment of cancer patients. We want to make their stay in Kuching as productive as it is positive.
To achieve and make this dream come true for the children and their families, they need our help. Please do find it in your hearts to spare some change as the suffering both patient and family members is way beyond our imagination.

We at A.B.A.S. will also send our representative to support such noble cause. The U.S.P.T.N. Sarawak trainees have shown their compassion and are interested to GO BALD as well. We are now working to have their new hairdo or maybe its "no hairdo" approved by their school as most of them are still students.

We are proud to have trainees in the Sarawak Tenpin Bowling Team so passionate about the social happenings in the state and country. They want to make a difference in their lives but others as well. Now that is the true meaning of Sarawak and Team Sarawak for our sport.

At this moment, Jonathan Ding Sagan, a member of Sarawak's Elite Team and Sukma 2010 Gold medalist has signed up and confirm going for the GO BALD. He is a true example and a role model for all young and old. CHEERS JON!!!

Another daredevil to step up on stage and have his head shaved is Kelvin Chan, A.B.A.S. Assistant Hon. Treasurer, ex-state bowler and team member of numerous title winning local league team, the 90's.

Good luck and many thanks to Jon and Kelvin for sacrificing their hair for a good cause. Now we can really say they are putting their heads to good use :) Cheers to both of them!!!

Photos of their before and after hairdo will be posted up after the GO BALD so do check back and have a look see. The Spring...Team Sarawak is coming!!!

U.S.P.T.N. AA fitness training at Unimas gym #3

And the torture continues for these kids. Today we even had new first timers to the sessions. Gonna be a fun day of sweating, moaning and groaning. Enjoy the moments everyone :)

Fitness guru, Sappian, running through instructions for the first exercise.

Turned out to be the dreaded "Stairs"

The finish line, basement floor door post...

Starting point, 2nd floor Gymnasium main door...

We got our trusty "jaga" on the watch for anyone trying to sneak into the gym for a rest...Hehe!!!

End of first exercise...Yes!!! Sweat and lots of sweat.

Then its to the Ground Floor for the next exercise...

Another dreaded exercise, the circuit run...

Go...Go...GO!!!

The "jaga" now change job, now the "High 5" man...

Some can still usher a smile, some totally can't lift their heads...Haha!!!

Some assume the Yoga position to rest and breathe...

Then there are some who just hug the post, bad case of "jello" legs...

Some not too bother and still have the energy to ogle at girls...

And well, there are some at the brink of puking...Hehe!!!

This one quickly pretend to be ticket girl to escape...

Another showing the post some love...

All left that he can move, his two fingers...

This one totally burned, and the smell also "chau hoi ta"...

Asking for mercy...NO!!!

"Star jump"

What comes after that is purely astrological, a falling "star"...Haha!!!
(Ironic also cause Jon keep calling himself a superstar :s)

Then after 21/2 hours of numerous exercises, you get these faces :D
Good job fitness guru :)

First timer, 12 year old Ethan Lo, pooped he may be but if he continues this, he is gonna be one fit 13 year old come next year :)

Tiring and straineous it may be for our trainees but the effect has been evidently positive with our trainees being able to sustain longer games, have more strength and balancing at the foul line has been much stable and solid in the past 2 weeks thus improving their scores and averages tremendously.
Keep it up kids, as they say...

NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!
