Sarawak dominate home leg
MIRI: Sabahan Ahmad Azraei Tamring prevented a clean sweep by Sarawak bowlers who dominated in the Sarawak leg of the Sportexcel- NSC-Milo-MTBC National Junior Circuit 2011 at Megalanes East bowling centre, Bintang Mall, which ended here on Saturday night.
Competing in the Boys Graded division, Ahmad Azraei, the second seed after 12 games, out bowled James Ting of Sibu and Muhd Uzair Irsyad Noorazrul of Kuching in the semi-finals and proceeded to meet top seed Abang Azlan Yunus Abang Azman of Kuching.
In the finals, Ahmad Azraei narrowly beat Abang Yunus by one pin to force a second game playoff.He continued his winning form to beat Abang Yunus with a score of 176 pinfalls while Abang Yunus could only manage 164 pinfalls.
The under 12 boys was won by Allexiss O’Neil Edward from Kuching, posting a total of 1,823 pinfalls over 10 games.
In the under 12 girls division, Gillian Lim from Miri won with a total of 1,630 pinfalls.
Raylin Ang from Kuching, who had two lucky breaks in the semifinals, won in the Girls Graded division.
The Girls Open and Boys Open finals were an all-Sarawak affair.
Mirian Farzana Ibrahim, the top seed after 12 games, also had to go for a sudden death play off when Nerosha Keligit of Kuching (second seed after 12 games) won in the first match with 221 pinfall against Farzana’s 175.
Farzana came back to win in the playoff scoring 206 pinfalls.Nerosha could only manage a 190 score.
Sukma player, Daniel Tan of Kuching, entertained the crowd with a perfect game in a sudden death playoff against fellow teammate Jonathan Ding Sagan of Kuching.
Jonathan, the third seed forced Daniel to a sudden death playoff in the first game.
Daniel scorched the lanes with 12 consecutive strikes for the perfect 300 and undoubtedly claimed the boys open title.Jonathan Ding had a creditable game of 217.
One hundred and forty seven boys and girls of age 18 and below from Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan participated in the tournament.
Deputy President of Amateur Bowling Association Sarawak (ABAS) Haji Shaifulbahri Shukri and Vice President of ABAS, Robert Lu, gave away the prizes.
