SET FOR CHALLENGE: Ervin aims to do well in the Asian Schools bowling championship in Thailand next week.
KUCHING: Sarawak junior kegler Ervin Lim is hoping to do well at the 13th Asian Schools Bowling Championship at Esplanade Bowling Centre in Bangkok, Thailand from July 4 to 11.
The 15-year-old form three students from SMK St Joseph, Miri is the only bowler from Sarawak who was selected by Malaysian Schools Sports Council for the week-long competition.
Ervin’s selection into the national squad was based on his performance at the MSSM Bowling Championship in Melaka where he finished top in the overall ranking for the Boys U-15 All Events and Masters.
It will also be his first Asian appearance after failing to make the cut in a national selection last year.
Another Sarawak junior who made it to the national B team was Jackelyn Ng from Kuching who will compete in the Girls U-18 category.
“I feel proud to be able to represent the country and I am hoping to do well in my first Asian outing in Bangkok where I will compete in the Boys U-15 category,” he said in a recent interview at Megalanes East Bowling Centre in Miri.
Ervin also finished fourth in the Boys Graded in the Canon Malaysian Open this year.
“Dad coaches me on weekdays at Megalanes East and I train in Seria, Brunei over the weekends,” said Ervin who added that he trained about two to three hours daily and put in more hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
He will be flying to Kuala Lumpur this Sunday to join the national squad centralised training at Sunway Pyramid Megalanes.
Meanwhile, Ervin finished eighth in both the Boys Open of the Sportsexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit and 180 and below division of the Megalanes East Invitation Championship that ended last Sunday.
